VIRC Junior Crew

Vashon Island Rowing Club offers Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer Junior rowing programs for everyone age 13 to 19 in grades 8 through 12.

Our programs emphasize the development of athletes as individuals and teammates in addition to developing conditioning and rowing skills. Participants learn to blend power, balance, finesse, and endurance in a cooperative, co-ed team atmosphere.

Our goal is not only to help each VIRC Junior become the best rower they can be, but also the best version of themselves.

Novice rowers learn the basics of rowing and receive a well-rounded introduction to crew. Returning rowers continue to train in technique and improve their fitness. Juniors interested in being a coxswain are encouraged to sign up.

Practices are held at VIRC’s Boathouse at Jensen Point and at our Indoor Training Center at Sunrise Ridge. Quartermaster Harbor provides a beautiful, protected venue for rowing, and includes a buoyed 2000-meter course. Click here for more about our facilities.

As of January 1, 2022, all Adult and Junior Members of VIRC are required to complete the US Rowing SafeSport training program to help ensure a safe experience for all participants. More information here.
