Adult Intro & Learn-To-Row (LTR) Programs
Introduction To Rowing Class
Interested in rowing, but not sure if you’re ready to commit to a class or season? Take a four-Saturday Intro to Rowing Class in the early summer. This is a great way to learn the basics before committing to a longer program.
Participants will learn:
Basic rowing technique taught initially on the rowing machine (erg)
Moving the boats (shells) between the storage racks in the Boathouse, slings in the parking lot, and the beach
Adjusting the equipment to fit you
Placing the shells in the water; entering and exiting them
On-the-water practice sessions in boats with experienced rowers
Learn to Row Program
The next step in your rowing journey…or maybe the first! Ready for the next step after your Intro to Rowing Class? Or just want to dive right in?
Our four week Learn to Row Programs in the summer are a great way to try rowing before committing to a full season.
Three evenings a week, and one weekend morning, you’ll head to our Indoor Training Center or the Jensen Point Boathouse for an in-depth rowing experience.
Participants need to pass a Float Test and sign the VIRC Waiver, and be able to lift and carry 30 pounds.
Private and semi-private lessons are available throughout the year by arrangement.
To find out more about current Learn-To-Row opportunities, send us an email.
If no LTR class is happening for a while, arrange with the coach to come to a couple of practices. Someone will be happy to take you out in a double and steady the boat while you get some instruction from the coach and practice the basics of the stroke apart from the rest of the team. Only a few of us rowed in high school or college; most of us started this way. We are grateful to the people who helped us get started and very willing to pass along the favor so we can have you as a new member.
