Founded in 1990, Vashon Island Rowing Club is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to providing the greater Vashon Island community the opportunity to experience the incredible feeling of the amazing sport of rowing. We provide fitness, fun and friendship. Financial aid is available and all are welcome.
VIRC prides itself on the incredible amount of volunteer hours that make our Club a family who support each other on and off the water. The Club hires coaches via our elected board with committee and membership input to instruct VIRC rowing programs and camps each year. The parents of the Junior Members, ages 13-19 (grades 8-12) who join the competitive Junior program have a vote per junior rower. Two junior parents represent the junior rowers on the board.
All members are involved in our main fundraiser, the P2P! The well attended passport2pain.org is a 30, 50 or 80 mile bike ride with 10,000 vertical feet around our beautiful, hilly island that was the brain child of our biking members. Each year there is a theme that our 19 check points, each with multiple volunteers create, decorate and dress up according to the theme. Cyclists stamp their passport at each check point to confirm their mileage. The event is on a Saturday in September and ends with a raffle and barbecue. VIRC also raises funds via car washes at IGA, members work as servers or clean up crew at community events for a donation etc….
