Financial Aid

A limited amount of financial aid is available for all Vashon Island Rowing Club Youth Programs. VIRC strives to ensure that all who want to participate in our Junior core season programs are able to do so.

Funding for Junior financial aid comes from several sources:

  • Club Operating Funds. VIRC pays for the equivalent of three annual scholarships out of income generated from member dues and fees.

  • Passport2Pain, the Club’s annual bike ride fundraiser. There are three sources of financial aid funding within P2P: donations pledged to the Junior team for every 1,000 feet of vertical that they ride; donations that riders earmark to VIRC; and a portion of sponsor income from the event.

  • Donations from parents and other friends of the VIRC Junior Program.

VIRC’s commitment to financial aid for our Junior program has earned us significant support from The George Pocock Foundation, which has awarded the equivalent of as many as five annual scholarships to VIRC Juniors. In addition, The Pocock Foundation ranks all our applicants through their process, then communicates those rankings to us so that our Board can appropriately allocate the total amount available in a given season. Youth of color and those facing socio-economic barriers are encouraged to apply.
